Gender, Sexuality, and Coaching

August 4, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Participants will earn .75 Core Competency and .25 Resource Development CCEs for attending this webinar.

When coaching Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) and gender non-binary people, having an awareness of the impacts and effects of their experiences of being outside of the heteronormative paradigm, can create deeper empathy, increased awareness of context, and allow for more trust and understanding in the coaching relationship. In this interactive workshop, we will explore many topics around gender and sexuality, through the lens of coaching clients who identify as LGBTQ or gender non-binary. Participants will leave with more knowledge on subjects related to sexuality and gender and a deeper understanding of the experiences of potential clients from this demographic. We will investigate the importance of language, then learn about, and discuss, the meaning of terms related to sexuality and gender (i.e.. queer, non-binary, sys-male/sys-female, they/them pronouns, etc.). This will also be an opportunity for participants to ask questions in a safe space, and even practice using some of these terms in an open dialogue.

Participants will gain knowledge and a deeper awareness of some of the challenges and complexities that may impact LGBTQ and gender non-binary coaching clients. They will leave with a greater capacity to understand some of the context present when working with clients from this demographic Additionally, they will have insight into topics and areas of focus where coaching may effectively support these clients. Furthermore, participants will learn about some of the specific language and terms that are related to gender and sexuality. Through open dialogue exploring these terms and their meaning, participants will become more comfortable using them. Finally, participants will increase their sensitivity and empathy for people experiencing life outside of the heteronormative paradigm.
