Embracing the Power of Silence in Your Coaching

About this event

“Silence is often seen as the absence of sound. In coaching, it’s often viewed as the absence of speaking by either the coach or the coachee. And, as such, the role of silence in coaching has been unfortunately underutilized. The challenge in coaching, as acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton said, is to understand that “Silence is not the absence of something but the presence of everything” (Hempton, as cited in Reynolds, 2024, p. 93, IOC The Sound of Silence in Coaching | Institute of Coaching)”

When coaches intentionally hold space for their clients, manage the potential discomfort, and open the opportunities for discovery and growth, transformation can come alive. Neuroscience lends itself to the research of how brain functions can navigate and ultimately encourage self-reflection. As coaches, when we invite the silence for our clients, we can offer spaciousness in our coaching, our clients can then take the time they need to follow their thoughts, explore their emotions and become present with themselves. In this workshop we will gain and share strategies and valuable insight on the reflective state of silence.
